The British National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has launched a link to its web site with „All you want to know on lead-free“, in the form of answers to the most often asked questions about the subject of lead-free soldering. The user will not only find answers but also further links that will help in preparing for the change to meet legislation that will be put in place in 2006. Questions range from legislation, exemptions, status on imported products, alloy choice, process temperatures required, hand soldering and rework issues, reliability, process requirements, inspection criteria, need for cleaning, sourcing of lead-free components and boards, costs and retraining. Additional links include reading on WEEE, ROHS & ELV (end-of-life vehicles) directives.
