Agilent Fault Detective is software that automates functional test diagnostics of board assemblies and sub-systems. It can help cut the cost and enhance the efficiency significantly by eliminating the time and expense of manual diagnoses, increasing diagnostic accuracy, and quickly providing insight into the root causes of recurring product failures. Functional diagnostics account for up to 10% of manufacturing costs, which derive largely from inaccurate manual diagnoses. Although accuracy varies with circuit complexity, misdiagnose of failures are 35 to 50% of the test time, resulting in a repetition of defects as boards are retested. Fault Detective’s initial accuracy rate is approximately 80%, and this can increase as the diagnostic model. It also eliminates the time required for manual diagnoses. When a functional tester registers a failure, it activates Fault Detective, which delivers diagnostic results. Programming is reportedly easy to learn. The run-time software is free of charge. Companies pay for each diagnosis, and the price drops as usage increases. A licensing fee will annually be charged for the modeling software.
