Orbotech has introduced inspection capabilities for its automated optical inspection (AOI) systems for electronics assembly product introduction (NPI) operations, to improve efficiency and reduce cycle time. Available as a software upgrade for Trion-2000 and VT-9000 systems, these qualifications complement the inspection techniques including statistical modeling which involves extracting and utilizing parameters from production assemblies to sustain a constant detection level over time. The enhancements offer early defect detection of component position and solder joint quality on PCBs of varying complexity during the pre-production phase. By offering first-pass defect detection and reduced programming, revisions and debug time for NPI jobs (can amount to eight days for a complex board), are now dramatically reduced.
