GSI Lumonics‘ release of its application software for use with its SVS series of paste and component-placement inspection systems, version 4.7, has been designed to increase the ease of managing inspection programs between systems. From this, especially installations will benefit that support multiple machines or which move production between sites. Users will find easier-to-use tools for transporting programs, which are actually collections of files, across internal and external networks for storage and download from central servers, allowing more easily creating libraries of programs and managing multiple systems. A program, created on a SVS system, can be loaded and run on other SVSs without the need for adjustment or compilation. The operating system has been advanced to OpenUnix 8, which provides DHCP networking. The upgrade also includes programming and functionality improvements, including a technique for achieving improved paste-inspection performance on very warped boards of flex circuits, support for a wide range of fiducial shapes, data presentation improvements, and the ability to re-edit programs created via the teach-from-CAD capability.
