Goepel has extended the collection of its AOI-systems with OptiCon Paste Inspector 2D for two-dimensional inspection of print for position and missing or blurred paste. The heart of the system is a matrix-camera with a shadow-free illumination unit which allows an inspection of PCBs of up to 400 x 430mm. The paste is recognized by a detection algorithm which in the threshold also exactly separates solder paste, PCB background and pad. Even different basis materials and solder-stop lacquers have no influence on the results. The comfortable user interface provides easy programming. The user has the option of reading in the scan ranges (steps) via CAD data import, or determining them automatically through manual specification. Single AOI steps can be deleted which can be very useful for the inspection of big pads. Because the fault probability on big pads is rather small, such selections reduce inspection time. The user interface permits starting of test steps manually, advantageous especially during the print process. Via the menu, the user is able to determine default settings for pad groups or even each single pads such as the maximal/minimal height of solder paste. A visualization tool permits the graphical presentation of scan range and results, to provide data for optimization of paste print.
